Timber framed buildings are only as good as those that build them. Fire stopping is compromised by sub contractors as soon as they move in. Residents, ignorant of what they are doing, often damage or completely negate the effect of fire stopping during DIY activities. As a retired fire officer I have experienced fire in timber and metal framed dwellings first hand and I can categorically state that, without exception, fire has spread through and up the internal cavities to upper floors. These houses are just not safe from fire spread, no matter how much paperwork is produced, simply because of the human element. The timber construction spokesman just waffled his way through but essentially, it's all cost driven, so suck it up and give us your money.
